Foothills Church members and friends enjoy being and doing together. Just witness the happy buzz in the Sanctuary before the Sunday morning service and the lively conversation and coffee in the courtyard afterwards. Our 4th of July hot dog celebration is a tradition as are a summer theatre or sports event group activity, Homecoming Sunday in the fall and the Annual Dinner in January. In addition to these congregation-wide activities, there are lots of smaller groups to choose from for additional camaraderie, learning and “artistic” expression. There is something for everyone, introverts included. Please peruse the list below, then call the church office at 650-282-7718 for more information on any that interest you. We would love to have you join in.
Love working with flowers and sharing your artistry? Altar Guild members bring their own skills and styles to the creation of floral arrangements for the sanctuary and special events, supporting and encouraging each other in these activities. They especially love decorating for the holidays. Altar Guild members also enjoy occasional luncheons/field trips together.
Want/need the opportunity to read and discuss a book of current interest in a small group? Book Group meets in the Fireside Room at 10:30 a.m. on the 4th Tuesday of the month for about an hour. Participants select the books as a group several months in advance and chose from all genres. The discussion is always stimulating, lively and respectful.
Busy Bees Group
Are you impressed with our lush and perfectly manicured landscaping? The Busy Bees keep things looking beautiful and truly loved. Some gather on Friday mornings, and others come whenever suits them during the week. All have a good time, take great pride in their work and occasionally socialize together with potluck events at the homes of their members.
Circle of Women
Yearn for a small group of female supporters and confidantes? The Circle of Women meets on the 4th Monday of the month from 7-9:00 pm in the Meeting Room. Participants enjoy a simple “no guilt” potluck dinner and the company of one another, sharing life concerns as well as celebrations. “No guilt” means you are welcome to personally cook something or instead to bring something store-bought if you choose.
Wishing for special moments to indulge your creative side? The Personal Cards Group meets Mondays from 10:00-noon in the Meeting Room to create greeting cards for use by Foothills Church and/or each group participant. Just think of structured time to let your artistic juices flow as you think of making someone feel remembered and special…
Want to get to know other church families with children and youth over a simple supper? Foothills family potlucks enable fellowship and dinner without much stress. The church provides a simple main dish and drinks. Participating families bring side dishes or desserts
to share (see “no guilt” definition above). These events happen about four times a year. All families are welcome, even if bringing food proves difficult one evening.
Get out your knitting needles, “pro’s” as well as newbies! This group meets on the 2nd Friday of the month from 1-2:30 p.m. in the Fireside Room to create prayer shawls and baby blankets for those deserving of a little extra-special enveloping warmth of Foothills friendship and support. Other projects are fine, too, so come prepared to knit and chatter. Those who cannot attend are welcome to knit and provide their creations to the Circle.
Venture out of your man cave to share with your fellow men! This lively and congenial group gathers on the 2nd Wednesday of the month from 8-9:30 a.m. at The Original Pancake House at 420 S. San Antonio Rd. in Los Altos. This is a supportive group of men who discuss interesting and thought-provoking themes. Conversation is animated, and the food is decent. Breakfast is $15, including beverage.
Want to get to better know a few people from our amazing congregation? Supper Groups provide a great opportunity for members and friends of the Church to become better acquainted, typically over a four-month span. The emphasis of these eight-person adult groups is food, fellowship and fun. They are organized once for the fall, and new ones are formed in the spring. Dinners are held in people’s homes and cooking responsibilities are shared each time.
Interested in widening your circle of women friends at Foothills? Bring a bag lunch and join in lively, free- ranging conversation on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at noon in the Fireside Room. This is a warm, comfortable and social environment to get to know one another. It is also the place to be if you want to know what is going on at Foothills.
